FAQ

General information

Can I extend the warranty for the Sunny Tripower X 60?

Yes, you can extend the warranty to 10, 15 and 20 years. To do so, submit a request to SMA: https://my.sma-service.com/s/osc-30-warranty-extension

The standard warranty is 5 years.

System Manager

What is a System Manager?

In connection with an energy meter, an SMA System Manager takes over closed-loop control at the point of interconnection and can control or regulate subordinate inverters. The System Manager also takes over system monitoring and communication to the Sunny Portal powered by ennexOS.

The SMA Data Manager and certain SMA inverters can be configured as a System Manager.

The Sunny Home Manager can be used as a superordinate device but is not able to fully perform the functions of the System Manager. For example, the Sunny Home Manager cannot be used for reactive power control.

If the Sunny Tripower X 60 has been configured as a System Manager, does it then completely replace an SMA Data Manager M?

The Sunny Tripower X 60 can replace an SMA Data Manager M in small to medium-sized systems up to 135 kW and with up to 5 servers. In other applications or larger system, an SMA Data Manager M may be required.

Can an SMA Energy Meter be connected directly to the inverter?

Yes, thanks to the integrated System Manager.

Compatibility

Is the Sunny Tripower X 60 compatible with all SMA inverters?

Yes, the Sunny Tripower X 60 is compatible with all SMA inverters.

However, depending on the configuration of larger systems, some compatibilities may be limited, e.g. when the Sunny Tripower X 60 is configured as a System Manager.

Is the Sunny Tripower X 60 compatible with the Sunny Home Manager 2.0?

Yes, the inverter is compatible with the Sunny Home Manager 2.0. In larger systems, the SMA Data Manager M or the System Manager function of the inverter is recommended.

Can the Sunny Tripower X 60 also be combined with the SMA EV Charger Business?

Yes, the Sunny Tripower X 60 can be combined with the SMA EV Charger Business.

Can the Sunny Tripower X 60 help manage an SMA eCharger and Sunny Tripower Smart Energy 10.0?

Yes, the Sunny Tripower X 60 can manage up to 5 servers, which can be other inverters or also a wallbox.

For analog signals from the grid operator, can a MOXA or WAGO device via Modbus (without SMA Data Manager M) be directly connected to the Sunny Tripower X 60?

Yes, that is possible.

Is the inverter compatible with high-current PV modules?

Yes, thanks to a maximum usable input current of 40 A per MPP tracker, the inverter is compatible with high-current PV modules. For more details, refer to Sunny Design.

Equipment

Are the surge protection devices replaceable?

In the Sunny Tripower X 60, both AC and DC surge protection devices are soldered to a separate printed circuit board. In case one of the two fails, the affected printed circuit board can be replaced.

Can the inverter, like the Sunny Tripower CORE1, be mounted on the roof?

Yes, with the optional Roof Mount Kit.

Are digital inputs integrated?

Yes, two Ethernet ports and a multifunction relay are also integrated.

Can the Sunny Tripower X 60 be connected to a ripple control receiver?

Yes, that is possible. However, the device must be configured as a System Manager.

Is an RS485 interface integrated in (or planned for) the Sunny Tripower X 60?

No, an RS485 interface is not integrated as SMA recommends the Speedwire interfaces. The communication via Speedwire is continuously encrypted and more reliable.

In cases of repowering, it is however possible to use an SMA Data Manager M to manage old system parts via RS485 and new system parts via Speedwire.

Technical

Where will the data be stored?

SMA stores all data exclusively on servers that are located in the European Union. The data is protected in accordance with the NIS2 guideline ("Network and Information Directive 2") in a future-proof manner to comply with new regulations. SMA relies on the patented and integrated encryption Speedwire Encrypted Communication (SEC).

In addition, the security of the Sunny Portal powered by ennexOS is certified through the ISO 27001 and the entire data storage software has been developed by SMA.

To protect data security, it is recommended to enable the automatic firmware updates of the devices.

How loud is the Sunny Tripower X 60?

The Sunny Tripower X 60 has a volume of 63 dB.

Why does the Sunny Tripower X 60 only have 10 DC inputs whereas the Sunny Tripower CORE1 has 12 DC inputs? Does that make it an adequate replacement?

The Sunny Tripower X 60 does have less DC inputs than the Sunny Tripower CORE1, but the development of more powerful PV modules since 2017 means that a single string can now supply considerably more power than before – often over 10 kW instead of the previous approx. 6 kW. This makes it possible to achieve comparable or even higher output levels with fewer inputs. This is partly due to the fact that the 5 MPP tracking devices of the Sunny Tripower X 60 are equivalent to the input currents of the 6 MPP tracking devices of the Sunny Tripower CORE1, making it also suitable for all types of modern high-current PV modules.

The Sunny Tripower X 60 also supports a DC/AC ratio of up 150 %, enabling flexible system planning.
