Sunny Tripower CORE1 From SMA Speeds up Installation of Commercial PV Systems by up to 60%

PV systems give companies the chance to improve their energy balance and to lower electricity costs. The new Sunny Tripower CORE1 inverter from SMA Solar Technology AG (SMA) reduces installation times for commercial PV systems by up to 60%. The first free-standing string inverter for decentralized rooftop and ground-based PV systems is the basis for the new SMA solution aimed at optimizing commercial self-consumption of solar power. In addition to a 50 kilowatt power output, the Sunny Tripower CORE1 delivers an extensive range of communication and grid management functions and is now available for global use.

“Our engineers have developed an inverter that cuts costs considerably by ensuring an up to 60% faster installation time. Thanks to its fully integrated design, the string inverter also produces cost savings for logistics, labor, materials and service,” said Nick Morbach, Executive Vice President of SMA’s Commercial business unit. “By developing the Sunny Tripower CORE1, SMA is making a valuable contribution to a future-proof, renewable energy supply. With its innovative design and cutting-edge communication and grid management functions, the string inverter is improving installation conditions for commercial PV systems worldwide. The Sunny Tripower CORE1 is the core element of the new SMA solutions aimed at optimizing self-consumption of solar power and is the basis for future SMA Energy Services in the commercial sector, thus helping to lower energy costs in companies.”

SMA unveiled the world’s first free-standing string inverter for commercial PV systems in fall 2016 at the largest U.S. solar trade show, Solar Power International (SPI). “Visitors to the trade show were particularly enthusiastic about the innovative and straightforward set-up technique as well as the modern integration concept and flexibility of the system design,” said Nick Morbach. The inverter can be set up easily, without additional mounting racks, on flat roof surfaces or in ground-based PV systems, but may also be assembled in the traditional way using module racks or within covered parking spaces.

With a capacity of 50 kW, the Sunny Tripower CORE1 is ideal for use in commercial PV systems up to the megawatt range. Its six MPP trackers ensure that the outputs of connected modules are always perfectly matched to generate the highest yields — even in shading. The string inverter has twelve direct DC inputs, which can be controlled using the integrated DC switch. The parallel connection featuring two DC inputs for every MPP tracker eliminates the need to use string fuses, thus cutting labor and material costs. Integrated WLAN allows for even faster and more straightforward configuration during commissioning. Users also benefit from a fast, problem-free grid connection. Thanks to the future-proof grid management functions and availability of active power reserve, PV systems featuring the Sunny Tripower CORE1 can be integrated perfectly in power grids worldwide.

Estimated availability of CORE1:
May 2017: U.S.A.
June 2017: Australia, Austria, Brazil, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Netherlands, Poland, Turkey, U.K.
July 2017: Belgium, Chile, Israel, Italy, Philippines, South Africa, Spain.
August 2017: Japan, Romania, Thailand.
