SMA Optimizes Energy Management with the New Compact Sunny Home Manager 2.0

Intelligent energy management with SMA is becoming even easier and more cost-effective. In its new, compact design, the new Sunny Home Manager 2.0 from SMA efficiently controls household energy flows and optimizes consumption of self-generated solar energy. With the Sunny Home Manager 2.0, SMA has integrated the “power measurement” and “energy management” functions into a single device. The compact solution not only makes installation easier – it also reduces system costs. Electrical devices can also be incorporated into the intelligent energy management from SMA with immediate effect simply by using cost-effective, standard WLAN radio-controlled sockets.

“With the Sunny Home Manager 2.0, we have made intelligent energy management from SMA even simpler,” said Frank Blessing, Head of Product Group Solutions at SMA. “Previously, two devices were needed for data recording and control. The new Sunny Home Manager 2.0 now combines these functions in a single device, therefore reducing the required components and installation effort. Another new feature is that loads can now be measured and controlled using cost-effective standard WLAN radio-controlled sockets.”

The option to control intelligent loads via a direct data connection with the EEBus standard and other data protocols is still fully available. Using the stable Ethernet connection, the Sunny Home Manager 2.0 is connected to the local router, through which all the data in the household flows. The Sunny Home Manager 2.0 can be employed for energy management, with immediate effect, in all new PV systems. Retrofitting in existing systems without Bluetooth communication is also possible under certain conditions.

As the central control unit in the SMA Smart Home, the Sunny Home Manager plans the use of electrical household appliances in line with the availability of more affordable energy and therefore ensures the optimal use of self-generated solar energy. It determines the power of the PV system and also recognizes the typical consumption patterns of the household. Based on this information, the Sunny Home Manager creates a schedule and starts the heat pump, washing machine, charging station for electric vehicles or other appliances accordingly. Thanks to the integrated EEBus data communication standard, the Sunny Home Manager integrates compatible household appliances from Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH (BSH) into the intelligent SMA energy management system.
