Rising electricity prices, new tariff structures, and increasing demands for supply security are creating new challenges for residential customers and small businesses in the management of their energy usage. At the same time, there is a growing desire to use self-generated solar power as efficiently as possible and to become independent of the grid. In this context, SMA Solar Technology AG (SMA) is presenting new components for its SMA Home and Commercial Energy Solution at Smarter E Europe 2026 in Munich.
A new generation of integrated energy management, higher power classes for hybrid inverters and energy storage systems, and a new backup solution will make it possible to reliably generate, store and intelligently use solar power. These components create a comprehensive, integrated solution for residential homes and small businesses, efficiently coordinating energy flows and improving operational efficiency.
“With these new components, we are expanding our existing solution portfolio in a targeted way, making it even more powerful and comprehensive for family homes and businesses of all sizes,” explains Marcus Spickermann, EVP of Home and Business Solutions at SMA. “For installers, this primarily means simplified processes while end customers benefit from economically optimized and reliable energy use.”
At the heart of the system is the new integrated energy management, which is available directly in all existing and new ennexOS-based SMA devices. The SMA Energy Planner, included as standard, allows energy flows to be controlled manually based on defined schedules and settings . This is particularly useful in applications with predictable load profiles, such as commercial settings, where typical use cases such as reducing peak loads, optimizing energy import from the grid and using surplus solar energy can be reliably implemented.
In addition, the SMA Energy Maximizer enables automated optimization of energy usage. It is unlocked with the SMA Premium digital service and can be enabled with just a few clicks, either directly during installation in the SMA 360° App or later by end customers themselves via the SMA Energy App. Self-consumption is prioritized, energy flows are controlled accordingly, and electricity is drawn from the grid only when it makes sense economically. At the same time, the system continuously adapts to real-world conditions such as consumption, weather, and price trends. The SMA Energy Maximizer can be used risk-free during a 90-day free trial period.
Benefits for end customers and installers
With the new SMA Energy Maximizer energy management system, end customers benefit from a high degree of automation and lower energy costs. For installers, the new solution primarily simplifies planning and commissioning. The energy management is integrated as standard, and configuration is quick and straightforward, taking place directly during the commissioning process. At the same time, the solution opens up new revenue potential: Through the integrated energy management and the digital SMA Premium Reward Program service, installers can generate long-term, recurring revenue.
The new generation of devices is also designed for efficiency in the installation process: The new three-phase hybrid inverter Sunny Tripower Hybrid X, with an expanded power range from 5 to 30 kW and features such as three or four MPP trackers and a low start voltage of 90 or 120 V, can be commissioned in just about five minutes using the SMA 360° App. This significantly reduces the effort required on-site and makes installation processes much more efficient. Solutions already on the market, such as the SMA eCharger, or existing storage solutions like SMA Home Storage, can still be flexibly integrated into the system, expanding its range of applications.
Flexible storage and supply reliability
The modular battery storage system SMA Storage M complements the solution with flexible storage capacities ranging from 12.3 to 49.2 kWh. Its design for high charging and discharging power also enables multiple charging cycles per day, opening up additional potential, for example, in conjunction with dynamic electricity rates.
In addition, the SMA Backup Solution provides a reliable, virtually uninterrupted power supply during grid outages, thereby increasing supply reliability for residential and commercial users. It integrates seamlessly into the overall system without affecting self-consumption during grid operation.
The new components of the SMA Home and Commercial Energy Solution will be available in phases starting in the second half of 2026, initially in Germany and then in other European countries. The new energy management system is already available in Belgium and the Netherlands.
