SMA recognized by S&P Global Energy as a Tier 1 PV inverter supplier

SMA Solar Technology AG (SMA) has been recognized by S&P Global Energy as a “Tier 1 PV Inverter Supplier 2026”. For customers, installers, project developers and investors, the Tier 1 classification serves as an additional point of reference when selecting financially stable and high-performing technology partners for PV projects of all sizes.

The results were published in the report “Tier 1 Cleantech Companies – PV inverter suppliers: 2026” and are based on transparent, data-driven criteria that assess companies across several key dimensions.

“Being recognized as a Tier 1 supplier confirms SMA’s strong market position and underscores our commitment to supporting our customers as a reliable, sustainable and long-term partner,” said Jürgen Reinert, Chief Executive Officer of SMA Solar Technology AG. “For large-scale PV projects designed to operate for decades, it is not only the performance of the technology that matters. A manufacturer’s market position, company size and sustainability performance are equally important. S&P Global Energy’s transparent methodology provides valuable additional guidance in this regard.”

Transparent assessment across six dimensions

The Tier 1 classification is not a traditional ranking. Instead, it recognizes companies that meet a defined standard across several key areas. To qualify, companies must exceed the specified thresholds in at least four of the six assessment dimensions. SMA achieved this in the categories of market presence, market share, company size and sustainability. Only twelve of the 30 companies assessed met these requirements.

S&P Global Energy’s methodology draws on sources including corporate and annual reports, regulatory filings, publicly available company information, interviews and surveys. The analysis also incorporates S&P Global’s sustainability assessment and RiskGauge, which is used to evaluate financial performance.
