For New Generation PV Power Plants: The SMA Medium Voltage Power Station 4400SC/5000SC-EV

Across the world there is an increasingly strong trend towards building centrally located PV power plants with DC voltage of 1,500 V. With the new Medium Voltage Power Station 4400SC/5000SC-EV (MVPS), SMA Solar Technology AG (SMA) has launched the ideal solution for this trend. The MVPS 4400SC/5000SC-EV for DC voltages of 1,000 V or 1,500 V is a turnkey container solution with two Sunny Central 2200 or 2500-EV central inverters and a perfectly coordinated medium-voltage solution comprising transformer and switchgear. Thanks to its unique power density and compact design, the MVPS 4400SC/5000SC-EV significantly reduces transport, installation and operating costs. Power plant operators, EPCs and investors also benefit from lower system costs for entire projects, from the possibility to establish even larger PV fields and from the reliability and long-term availability of the new MVPS 4400SC/5000SC-EV.

“Easy transportation, quick installation and short commissioning times – true plug and play - as well as first-class technology, safety, long-term reliability and consistently high energy yields are among the most important aspects when it comes to solutions for the latest generation of PV power plants with DC voltages of 1,500 V,” explained Boris Wolff, Executive Vice President of the Utility business unit at SMA. “With the new MVPS 4400SC/5000SC-EV, SMA once again impressively demonstrates that our decades of experience and innovative technical approaches pay off for our customers. Only inverters and medium-voltage solutions that are precisely coordinated with each other and designed for maximum availability can reliably ensure the consistently high energy yields and reduced costs expected by operators of large PV power plants.”

The new Medium Voltage Power Station from SMA builds on the twin forces of two robust Sunny Central 2200 or Sunny Central 2500-EV inverters. The arc-fault tested, turnkey station can be used in large power plants all over the world for all grid voltages, even in challenging ambient temperatures up to 55°C. The station as a whole as well as all the individual components are type-tested. Both the medium-voltage and low-voltage control rooms are always accessible and separated from each other. With its optimized block size, the MVPS 4400SC/5000SC-EV achieves a noticeable reduction in the specific price per watt. The new Medium Voltage Power Station is available to order now, ready for delivery starting May 2017.

As central components of the new Medium Voltage Power Station, the innovative Stack Design of the Sunny Central inverters is optimally suited for 1,500-volt PV power plants. This provides the opportunity to oversize the PV field by up to 150% and offers greater availability, a longer service life, minimized risk of failures and consistently high energy yields in PV power plants.
