The majority of the approximately 80 million residents of Ethiopia live in remote and mountainous regions – often without access to the public power grid. However, a continuous electrical energy supply is essential in providing adequate health care.
SMA off-grid systems represent a critical step towards a future with a higher quality of life for 100 hospital wards. The smallscale AC-coupled solar power systems, each featuring a PV capacity of 1.5 kWp and a maintenance-free battery, supply the health care stations' vital equipment, such as microscopes, centrifuges, refrigerators and sterilizers. Around 20 doctors and nurses treat patients in these health care centers.
The system can be effortlessly expanded to meet increasing energy demands. Moreover, the storage battery allows the solar power that is not needed during the day to be used for operating important equipment at night.
The Sunny Island 2224 is the ideal choice for solar off-grid systems with a lower power range. They are easy to operate and install, substantially improve the possibilities as well as support the independence of the locals at the same time.
