Our Energy for Climate Protection

SMA inverters are the heart of every PV plant and thus contribute to a large extent to the reduction of CO2 emissions. Furthermore, the ongoing process of optimizing the materials used and the efficiency of our products contributes to enhanced energy efficiency and the conservation of resources. But it is not only with our products that we want to make a contribution to environment and climate protection, but also by measures implemented in the production process at our site.

Sustainable Energy Concept

The sustainable management of the environment and use of natural resources is a crucial constituent of the SMA mission statement. Against this backdrop, SMA pursues a comprehensive, sustainable energy concept which places great emphasis on energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources.

As a result of the sustainable energy concepts implemented in the buildings and the production facility, SMA was admitted to the "German Partnership for Climate Protection and Energy Efficiency" in October 2010. Also since October 2010, SMA has been a member of the learning network in the project "CO2-neutral State Administration" of the Federal state of Hesse.

Certified Environmental Management System

The environmental management certification, DIN EN ISO 14001, took place in August 2010, thus pushing forward and reinforcing the issue of environmental protection at the German location in Niestetal. By means of regular internal audits, the environmental performance was monitored, regularly analyzed, enhanced and communicated within the company. Thus, we raise environmental awareness in our employees, which is characterized by an open information policy and target-oriented collaboration. In order to attain the goals of the environmental program ensuing from the certification, we have established clear structures, procedures and responsibilities.

In-House Mobility Management

The concept of climate and environment protection also encompasses mobility management at SMA. This includes numerous measures to improve mobility within the company and is intended to foster a more environmentally oriented mobility behavior on the part of the employees.  The aim is to implement an integrated mobility management strategy which includes both in-house procedures and measures involving external actors. The "Innovative Concepts in Mobility Management" competition is held annually by the German Energy Agency (dena) and the Federal Department of the Environment. In June 2010, SMA's mobility management concept was awarded 1st prize in the category "Internal Mobility Management".
